Checked damage at Parks over the weekend

  • January 25, 2010 7:34 pm

It looks as if the big storm last week didn’t do too much to the Parks I visited over the weekend. The ground absorbed the water very quickly and the winds must not have been too bad. If anyone has anything to report let me know and we’ll post it.

I have some photos I took at Cosmo Dog Park in Gilbert from Sunday morning I will post later. Did you know that you can go fishing in the pond where the dogs swim? It’s too bad Surprise Dog Park doesn’t let dogs in their fish pond.

Damage at Foothills Park…not so bad yet.

  • January 21, 2010 10:57 am

I went and checked out the damage at Foothills Park I had heard about. All the canopies in the large dog area are fine but as you can see in the photo there is no longer a canopy in the small dog area. Tonight(Thursday, 1/21/10) we are supposed to get hit with a massive storm including high winds so there could be damage throughout the valley by Friday morning.

With the economy as it is if you lose your Dog Parks canopy you may have to get used to putting on some sun screen before heading to the Park this Spring.

Rain, rain, rain!

  • January 18, 2010 7:44 pm

It looks as though we will be getting two weeks straight of rain which will be good for the grass but keep most of us out of the dog parks. If anyone has any ideas of where we can go other than doing laps in Petsmart during the worst of it drop us a response.

Park Police

  • January 15, 2010 8:18 am

We had a visit from a Park Policeman last night at the Dog Park. He was in casual dress but had a gun so I think he was legitimate. He warned us of letting our dogs off leash outside the Dog Park and made me put the collar back on my dog who was in the Dog Park playing. I’ve been taking it off lately because when the dogs wrestle they will grab collars and yank on them.

If you want to avoid getting tickets follow the above rules. I would like to point out that the lawn at our park hasn’t been watered since September so maybe the City of Peoria could put some of its finances toward sprinkling the dirt once in awhile. We would appreciate that more than a guy with a gun eyeing our pets.

Glucosamine for dogs with arthritis

  • January 10, 2010 7:49 pm

I found this link that has some helpful info on whether or not Glucosamine is worth giving your dog. They have a logical sounding explanation of why it isn’t being recommended by all Vets. It is considered a supplement and can’t be patented so Pharmaceutical companies can’t charge ridiculously large sums for it.

Foothills Dog Park storm damage

  • January 10, 2010 7:14 pm

I just heard that Foothills Dog Park in Glendale got damaged in the storm we had about a month ago. I will swing by and get some photos. Rumor is due to the economy it may be messed up for awhile.

New Deem Hills Dog Park in the works

  • January 4, 2010 7:52 pm

I just spoke to someone who lives in the Stetson Hills development and they heard from the city planning department that a Dog Park is going to be built at Deem Hills Park as soon as the money is available.

This part of town is west of the I-17, north of Happy Valley road and is a very nice part of Metro Phoenix. Let’s hope the economy picks up and we can get some more Dog Parks built.

Totally Off Topic: 2009 Movie Reviews

  • January 1, 2010 9:00 am

This was a bad year economically so I didn’t get to see my 52 movies in the theater I normally do but below is a list of what I did see from best to worst.

  1. Avatar: A must see film, it works visually and for me on a deeply emotional level.
  2. Inglourious Basterds: Tarantino’s best film and should win many academy awards.
  3. Star Trek: Way to re-boot a tired old franchise.
  4. Watchmen: As close as a director as has come to translating a comic book to the cinema.
  5. District 9: Groundbreaking with a non-stop action ending that made Transformers 2 look like a retard movie.
  6. Observe & Report: So underrated it’s criminal, check out The Foot Fist Way on DVD when you get a chance.
  7. The Hangover: A light and frothy summer delight, will become a rowdy classic like Animal House.
  8. Sherlock Holmes: I was afraid it was taking the supernatural route but like all good Holmes’ stories all is explained at the end.
  9. Paranormal Activity: We need more films like this, can’t wait to see the original ending on DVD release.
  10. Monsters Vs. Aliens 3D: I love old monster movies and they kept the faith.
  11. The Invention Of Lying: This will be a slow burn film, it’s a little too ahead of its time.
  12. I Love You Man: Very laid back with improv vibe, it relaxed me.
  13. Adventureland: A very sad comedy with a happy ending.
  14. Zombieland: Everyone should die in a Zombie movie, otherwise it was OK.
  15. Jennifer’s Body: Great premise but needed a script re-write to remove the Juno-esque dialog.
  16. I Love You Beth Cooper: I know I’m an old perv but I could watch Hayden Panettiere pick her nose and get turned on.
  17. X-Men Origins: Wolverine: Kind of a confused mess but fun.
  18. Year One: An old throwback to Mel Brooks style comedy.
  19. My Bloody Valentine 3D: Pushed the envelope on nudity in horror films but ultimately fizzled at the end.
  20. 2012: I loved watching LA slide into the ocean and liked the actors but a slog, I actually fell asleep for about 10 minutes during the film.
  21. Transformers 2: Indulged my niece by seeing this and at least got to see a few shots of Megan Fox’s mutant thumbs.
