It turns out the Dog Park I was told about was Papago Park which is O.K. but not anywhere near Tempe Town Lake. My pup and I did go running around behind the buttes awhile but there was a lot of glass and garbage back there. Oh, well.
New possible Dog Park?
I was talking to someone at Chaparrel Dog Park tonight who said that there is a Park at Tempe Town Lake. This might explain why the other dog parks in Tempe suck so bad. In todays horrendous economy cities seem to only be able to put money into one park. I will hunt this park down and hopefully be able to add a page to my website shortly. Since I’m now living in the deep south of Phoenix this may even become my park of choice. I miss the laid back dog owners of Peoria.
New Dog Video
My dog has been enjoying running around South Mountain Preserve more than hanging at the Dog Park lately. I believe her Coyote genes are kicking in more. She really enjoys running free and chasing lizards and rodents in the desert setting. I shot a video today I hope you enjoy.
Natural Bridge Video
I shot this video yesterday up in Payson, AZ of Natural Bridge. The park rangers won’t let you take your dog down to the “bridge” so Sugar had to stay up top. I highly recommend visiting this spot. It is almost as cool as Kartchner Caverns.
South Mountain Preserve
Now that I am living on the South Side I’ve been looking for a nearby spot to hang out with my dog. I have found the entrance to South Mountain Preserve which is at 46th Street and Baseline Rd. There are a series of peaks that you can walk with your dog that aren’t too hard and if you go when it is not very busy you can let your pet go off-leash to hunt lizards. What I like best is no matter how many peaks you top there are quick side trails that will take you back to Baseline and the parking lot in a short time. There is also a fantastic view of Camelback Mountain and Downtown if you are into that.

Just Hanging Out
I’ve been hanging out at RJ Dog Park during the week and Chaparral Park on the weekends. I’ve also taken to jogging the canal near my place and hiking South Mountain Preserve with my Dog. No big news since I’ve been too busy for the first time in a couple of years.
I hope to have a new and improved Dog Park Riot up and running by end of year. Just getting the hang of Cascading Style Sheets and XML. I need to get crazy with the Photoshop so it really pops. I also want to get the Social Networking going. The Dog Park is the best place to meet Singles who are good compassionate people.
Two Dogs looking for a home
My Niece is moving back to Wisconsin, where our clan originates from, and has two big strong dogs she is trying to find a home for. One is a female Husky named Lola. She has one brown eye and one blue eye which gives her an interesting look. The other is a black male Labrador and Pit Bull mix named Drew. Lola feels to be about 50 lbs. and Drew is about 60 lbs. They are both about 5 years old and were rescued as puppies.
My Niece recently had a baby and is having difficulty spending time with them. They are very good dogs but need lots of exercise and tummy rubs. If anyone is interested feel free to post to this blog and I can arrange a meeting.
Summer Just Around the Corner
Just a reminder that as it warms up you will need to keep your dog hydrated at the dog park. Since you can’t let one dog drink out of a bowl but not another I would recommend the “cooler” technique. I have a six-pack cooler I bought from Walmart for a few bucks and I fill it about 3/4 full. When I get to the park I place it on the ground and let all the dogs have at it. Since most parks in Phoenix have water you shouldn’t have to worry about running out. My dog is afraid of spigots, it reminds her of bath time, so I always make sure she has her cooler to drink from.
Looking for a new Dog Park
I am moving from the Sun City area now that my Dad has passed away and I no longer have to watch after him. I will be living on the southwest corner of Tempe and the only two parks worth hanging at are Chaparral in Scottsdale or Cosmo out in Gilbert. I hope I find some friends there as good as my buddies at Parkridge.
